China Automotive Lightweight Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance is about to be established

According to the China Association of Automotive Engineers, the strategic alliance for lightweight automotive technology innovation was established recently. The alliance aims to reduce vehicle weight, reduce consumption, and improve safety, and strives to break through the development bottleneck of China's automotive lightweight technology.

According to reports, this affiliate plans to independently innovate for 3 to 5 years, so that China's car models to reduce their own weight 8% to 10%, the safety of the national car collision and side collision safety requirements. Commercial vehicles reduce the weight of about 300 kilograms to reach the current level of lightweighting of similar international products. At the same time, a number of lightweight generic technologies with independent intellectual property rights and significant impact on the industry have been developed and promoted to enterprises.

Chen Yilong, director of the Coalition Expert Committee, believes that the lightweighting of automobiles is an urgent need for China's energy-saving and emission-reduction strategies. At present, the domestic self-owned brand passenger cars have a self-weight that is approximately 8% to 10% higher than that of foreign cars of the same type. Commercial vehicle weights are approximately 10% to 15% higher than similar foreign cars. Taking a car as an example, if the weight of the vehicle is reduced by 100 kilograms, it will be able to drive 1 kilometer per liter of oil. The National Development and Reform Commission requires that the average fuel consumption of new passenger cars in 2010 be reduced by 15% compared with 2003. Without the development of lightweight technologies, this goal cannot be achieved.
