Hitachi Metals announced on April 11, 2016 that it has developed a soft magnetic ferrite core material "ML29D" with low loss characteristics over a wide temperature range, and established a mass production system. The material is expected to be used in transformers and inductors of automotive electronic equipment to achieve higher efficiency and reliability, and become smaller and lighter.

Vehicle electronics are also used near the engine room, so automotive manufacturers want to improve their performance and reliability over a wider temperature range. Magnetic field loss occurs in the core material used for components such as transformers and inductors. This energy loss is converted into a heat source and the ambient temperature rises. Therefore, automotive manufacturers are demanding the development of materials with low core loss in high-temperature environments.

The newly-developed ML29D is a manganese-zinc (Mn-Zn) ferrite material, using Hitachi Metals' proprietary powder technology and heat treatment technology. Compared with the conventional product "ML33D," core loss at 140°C is reduced by more than 15%, saturation flux density is increased by 20%, and power consumption and heat generation of the power supply circuit can be suppressed in various environments. .
