The engine start-stop technology is a very practical vehicle energy-saving and emission reduction technology. According to statistics, the number of passenger cars traveling in the city is approximately 30% of the time in idle conditions. This proportion is even higher if there is serious traffic congestion. In this case, the vast majority of drivers will not use the car ignition key to turn off the engine, but are used to keep the engine idle. I compared the situation at this time to the fact that hundreds of small boilers emit exhaust gas in the city center. Unless air conditioning is needed, if everyone can turn off the engine temporarily, it will save a lot of fuel and reduce a lot of exhaust emissions. The automobile engine start-stop technology is a device that automatically starts and stops when stopped.
In particular, because the internal combustion engine's combustion condition during idle conditions is worse than that during normal operation, the relative proportion of harmful gases emitted is relatively large. Therefore, the use of start-stop devices is more effective in reducing emissions than in reducing fuel consumption. According to actual test results, it is estimated that the fuel saving effect of the start-stop device of the automobile equipment can reach 5% to 15%, and the emission reduction effect can reach 10% to 20%. This is for the entire operating cycle, and the effect on the air quality in the local area around the road segment where the traffic jam occurs is far from this value. The more serious the traffic jam is, the more significant the energy saving and emission reduction effect of the start-stop system is. In view of the increasingly serious situation of urban air pollution and traffic jams in China, the automobile start-stop system should be vigorously promoted.
The start-stop device is an easy-to-implement technology that does not require major changes to the engine. Its price is about 500-3,500 yuan in complexity. There are roughly two types of start-stop devices based on their functionality and complexity. The ordinary start-stop technology automatically shuts off the engine when the car encounters a red light or a traffic jam. When the driver releases the brake pedal or the foot clutch (or accelerator pedal), the engine starts in time. The complex start-stop system also has a braking energy recovery function that can convert part of the energy recovery of the braking process into electrical energy for charging the battery. The latter is more expensive. Starting and stopping devices in hybrid vehicles are an important part of their power system.
The international car start-stop system has emerged as early as 20 years ago, but the widespread application is after paying attention to reducing the carbon emission requirement. In 2007, about 54,000 vehicles were equipped with start-stop systems worldwide. By 2008, there were about 736,000 vehicles equipped with start-stop systems in Europe, accounting for about 5% of new vehicle sales. According to reports, nearly half of new European cars will be equipped with start-stop systems by 2012. Almost all international automobile brands have products equipped with start-stop systems. At present, the main suppliers of start-stop systems in the world are Bosch, Fario, Denso, Delphi and other international automotive electronics products.
China's auto companies had started to start and stop the application of system technology as early as the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period. In 2008, there were 50 Chery cars equipped with start-stop systems for the Beijing Olympic Games. According to the statistics of 25 energy-saving and new energy automobile demonstration cities at the end of 2012, more than 2,000 passenger vehicles equipped with start-stop systems, such as Brilliance, Chang'an, and SAIC, have been put into demonstration operations. In the demonstration cities, passenger vehicles that use the start-stop system can obtain a state financial subsidy of 4,000 yuan per vehicle.
