Car air purifier or a new selling point in the automotive industry

December 12, 2022

At the 2014 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition, major auto manufacturers competed to display car air purifiers, attracting the attention of many visitors. It will be one of the important indicators for people buying cars in the future.

In-car air purifiers may have existed for 30 years, but in recent years, with the escalation of air pollution in some countries, the technology has been vigorously promoted. Car buyers say that they are willing to buy a car with a built-in air purifier so that it can ensure the health of family members in hazy weather.

According to reports recently organized by the Physicists Organization Network, car manufacturers giants eager to occupy this lucrative potential market, and claimed that their products can reduce the harmful emissions of vehicles, and soon will add air purifiers into the car to Attract a huge "corps" to drive in China.

Last year, Volvo Cars of Sweden demonstrated its new air purification system in a publicity campaign. In addition to filtering out polluting particles, it also includes pollen.

The Nissan Nissan Forest Air Conditioning System (ForestAC) has been installed in its luxury Infiniti since 2010, in addition to filtering the air and increasing the aroma of leafy vegetables to help drivers refresh themselves while driving to sleep. Another selling point is that the system can take away all cigarette smoke and odor traces in as little as 5 minutes.

The French car Peugeot Citroën Group (PSA) entered this trend and provided an optional air purifier for its Dongfeng Citroen New Elysee model, and the company plans to expand this function from 2016.

According to Patrick Andre, head of the company's air filtration research group, according to market demand, the technology will be incorporated into the PSA DS luxury series, as well as other models. Once the vehicle enters a polluted environment, the "smart filter" system will start to function. He said that a complex filter can prevent fine particles that are less than 90% from 3 microns, while a layer of activated carbon adds a porous form of bamboo charcoal that can "capture dirty gas."

Valeo, a French component manufacturer, has been developing a new system in China to replace the traditional air filter and has already made its first order.

Analysts in the industry predict: “Now, consumers are increasingly aware of safety issues, including air quality. If automakers install a vehicle with clean air and a better safety system, it will attract more buyers.” Moreover, not only in the Chinese market, the purification system is equally applicable to drivers who drive in Europe. Andre said: "Pollution is also a problem in Europe, especially in France in March when it was attacked by smoke."
