R1234yf Refrigerant is a replacement for R-134a as a refrigerant in automotive air conditioners. HFO-1234yf is the first in a new class of refrigerants acquiring a global warming potential rating 335 times less than R-134a. R1234yf Refrigerants are better for the environment with a lower Global Warming Potential while 134a, is a greenhouse gas that is as harmful as carbon dioxide. Still, 134a was an improvement on R12 which has a staggering GWP of nearly 11,000 while 134a brought that number down to 1430.
